1-800-Get-Lost

When I was in the 6th grade, I had this T-shirt that I thought was the bomb. I would seriously wear it twice a week and sometimes to bed. It was red, had a square neck, and it read "want my number? Call 1-800-Get-Lost!" So just in case a boy asked for my number, I wouldn't even have to respond, I would just have to make a small gesture and point down at my shirt where those words were. But no boys asked for my number anyway, which was a bummer. But I was just thinking about how lame I was back then, if I honestly thought I was cool wearing that, there must have been something wrong with me. When I go and look back on my previous journal entries, it's confirmed that I was; in fact, a geek. (And my transition coke-bottle glasses to sunglasses didn't really help my image either). I bring this up because I don't want to be in my thirties and looking back on these times and saying, "What was I thinking?" or "How did I have friends?" or "Did I really wear that?" Cause I'd like to think that I'm pretty cool right now.. But then again, I thought I was the shiz in the 6th grade...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't want to make a whole new post, so I'll just add to this entry.

Yesterday my roommate, Maile, got married! Her and her husband are so fetching cute together it's ridiculous. They are going to have some adorable little babies. They looked so happy together, and I noticed her husband specifically. He was just gleaming and every time he would look at Maile, I could tell he was so in love. That's cute.
Anyway, her reception was beautiful! It was one of the better receptions I have ever been to. Emily wrote a song for Maile and Mitch and sang it at the luncheon and reception, she did an awesome job. I wish I would have recorded it! But congrats to Maile and Mitch, and have a freaking awesome time in North Carolina! I'm going to miss you so much! (Pictures following shortly)
*See the happy couple here.

P.S. I caught the bouquet.. You know what that means..!

The Worst Flaw

One time when I was about 10, my family and I went on vacation to California. We were on our way home and were passing through Vegas. I had to go to the bathroom so bad, but we had just started our roadtrip to go back home, and I was too scared to ask my dad to pull over.. even though he could have pulled over in many places seeing as how we were in Vegas. I whispered to Larissa, "Hey Larissa, tell dad to pull over cause I gotta pee!" She didn't, and came back at me with, "YOU TELL HIM! I'm not the one who has to go!" So I sat in the back seat holding it in, and feeling completely uncomfortable and miserable. I probably would have peed my pants had Larissa not said to my dad, "Dad, Laurel has something she needs to tell you." I was so mad at her for saying that! She could've just said, "We need to go to the bathroom, can you pull over?" So, I finally told my dad that I needed to go to the bathroom right now, and asked if he would pull over. Of course there were no cities or rest stops in sight, so he pulls over to the side of the road and tells me to go behind a rock facing the freeway, while my mom and sister held up a blanket for my make-shift stall... NICE! Things would have went a whole lot smoother and less humiliating had I told my dad when we were in Vegas to pull over.

Why am I telling you this story? Because I'm making a point. I never speak my mind, even if it's in my best interest. I'm a push over, and I don't like confrontation, so I'll avoid it at all costs. Which leads people to walk all over me, manipulate me, and screw me over. This post is dedicated to my boss, who just layed me off.

I have gathered the emails that she had sent me and the ones I sent back, and will share them for your enjoyment. Or maybe just so you can see how she walked all over me, and I let her do it.. By the way, I know what you're thinking. Yes, my boss did lay me off over EMAIL. She didn't even have the common courtesy of speaking to me over the phone or in person. She's pretty awesome.
Here is the email I got from her:

"Dear weekend help,

After ****** quit weekends I needed to fill the empty spots permanently. I offered them to all backup help, and I know it didn't work into your schedules to work a permanent shift. I had to hire more weekend help and have an aide that offered to work the whole weekend from Friday night to Monday morning every weekend. I have discussed this situation with Kathy and she has appreciated the help, but sees that this would be a good thing for Evan to have a consistent person to help him. <----
This is false. She never discusses anything with Kathy (Evan's daughter) she just does things in her best interest, and that would be the easiest for her.

I know you were hired as backup help and I would still like to keep you as backup help for when we need shifts covered, I know we will still have shifts come open. If you are scheduled for a weekend shift please know you don't need to work those shifts. If you are covering or working a weekday shift those shifts still need to be covered.
<---- I was not hired as backup help, I was hired to do Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Saturday. Which was perfect for me, and why I had agreed to it. What I don't understand is why she gave away every last one of my shifts without my consent.

I appreciate all the help you have offered, and feel bad I had to hire more help, but when this offer came, It seemed best for Evan to take the aide, and keep you on as backup help. I hope you understand the situation and will stay on, as there will always be a need for backup help.
<--- I didn't understand the situation, and I didn't stay on. I don't need to do her any favors.

If you have any concerns please let me know, I would be happy to talk to you.
<-- Talk to us?? You mean you would be happy to email us? Good one.

Thanks

***** "

I was furious when she sent me this. I took a few days to gather my thoughts, and I responded with this huge email. I couldn't call her because she changed her number and has a secretary answer her phones, who only leaves messages for *****. So what was I suppose to say, "Uhh hey, I just would like to leave a message for *****, tell her that I hate her..." I wanted her to hear it or read it first hand, from me. So here is what I sent back. I feel a little bad because I'm never this rude, but it made up for all the times that I didn't speak up.

"Dear *****,
I appreciate the opportunity I had to work for you, I learned so much from this job, and learned a great deal of patience throughout this whole experience. I feel bad that you had to cut me from working regular hours, as I was loyal, and your longest working employee. I was pretty upset when you had said, "I know you were hired as backup help..." Because I wasn't hired as back up help. I was hired to work Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Saturday, which were the perfect hours for me, that would help me get by and to pay all of my bills for the month, and still have time for my school work. You gave my Thursday shift to *******, without my consent. You gave away my Tuesday shift to ****, also without my consent, and told me I didn't need to work those anymore. I was upset with all of this because I had worked here the longest, and you were just giving away my shifts to new people you hired. Those days were mine, and didn't need to be covered, so I was confused as to why you just let them work my hours, especially **** because obviously he wasn't a very great employee. So when you had fired him and *******, you had asked me if I could fill in on some of their shifts, and I was grateful for another opportunity to get my hours back, and I said I would be able to work the Wednesdays and Thursdays, and still keep my Saturday. Then you hired ***** as the Manager, and said she wouldn't be working any hours, she'd just be a backup if we needed, faxing the papers, buying the groceries and such, until you put her on the schedule and therefore taking over those two shifts I had happily agreed to do.

I was also upset about the schedule mishap this month. I found it ironic that both you and Kathy wanted me to work the Wedding shift, was it because the family likes me, and I got along with Evan really well? If so, why would you give away all of my shifts to new people whom you didn't even know very well? I was furious when you gave away the wedding shift (MY SHIFT) to *******, because I didn't reply soon enough to your email. *****, I rarely check my email, and that was unfair to me that you didn't call me up and ask me right then and there. I could have told you that that was my shift anyway, and that would have eliminated the confusion with my shifts for this month. You do everything over email, which makes things so much harder to communicate, and to get to you we have to call the secretary, who leaves a message. Most of the time the message isn't given to you until the next day, or you don't respond until the next day. Getting a hold of you is near impossible and such a hassle. Terrible management, in my opinion. With all of the scheduling mishaps this month, I lost out on the opportunity to make around $350, which would've payed my rent, cell phone, and groceries. I'm not sure why I'm the only person who's schedule is always messed up. But I am not happy with the way things have gone.

I was let down when you had some girl from Ogden come up and fill in for the whole weekend when I had agreed to some shifts that weekend to make extra money. If she wanted to work the whole weekend because she didn't want to go home for a couple hours and have to come back, you could have worked it out with me, and I probably would have been able to work more hours and into the night. But you never worked anything out with me; again, poor management. But to top it off, you hire someone to work the whole weekend, which is well over 40 hours, and I thought you didn't have the funds to pay for over-time workers? That's why we started doing the 7-3, 3-10, and 10-7 shifts, to make sure that nobody went over 40 hours/ week. The first week that I had started I worked almost 100 hours!! I worked two 24 hr shifts, and the 48 hour weekend shift, you do the math. I didn't get payed one cent for over time work. That is messed up, and against the law, but I won't get into it because ***** already called you out on that.

I don't know how your accountant messed up with my paycheck or whatever, but I was also very mad about the fact that I haven't received a paycheck in over a month, because of that mess up. Little paychecks every two weeks help me out way better than one check with a little more money on it, and nothing for a month. My parents had to help me out so much these past months because you robbed me of my shifts. You owed me that extra paycheck and those extra hours with all of the times you have screwed me over. But I'm honest, so I let you know that you had sent me two of the same paychecks. My honesty and loyalty got me nowhere with this job.

I feel like everything you say is a lie, and you contradict yourself all the time. You're kind of a sketchy and flakey boss. Good luck keeping your employees with the way you manage your company. I only stayed with this job because I truly cared for Evan, I loved his family and got along very well with them, and it has been my favorite job I've ever had. It's too bad that you had messed everything up for me.

Please take me off of the payroll, and don't ask me if I can fill in for you, because I won't. You gave away all of my shifts, and I won't be doing you anymore favors. Please don't respond back, as I don't care to hear your excuses. I just wanted to let you know all of this so you can maybe change your ways and have better luck with your employees. Because right now, I'm almost positive nobody is happy with you.
Laurel

After I sent that I felt terrible, but good at the same time. Never in my life had I done something like that, so maybe this will change the way I am from now on? I'm so sick of people walking all over me, just because I'm too nice to fight it, and I don't like confrontation. While I was typing the email she had sent me another one...

"Laurel,

I hope you have gotten my emails."
<--- What if I haven't been receiving your emails? Would you just keep emailing me asking if I have gotten them? What if I had told my family that I can't spend the weekend with them because I had to work, when really I didn't even have any hours. That would have sucked.
"I had to hire more weekend help and hired an aide that offered to work the whole weekend every weekend. I really like you as an employee, you are always reliable and great with Evan. "<--REALLY like me? ALWAYS reliable and great with Evan? Those are some dang good qualities to have in an employee, and for her to just give away all of my shifts to new people, who she doesn't even know, and know if they'll be good with Evan or reliable makes no sense at all.
"I notice that you are on the calendar working for Kelly in a few weeks, I hope you are still good with that. " <--- Nope, not still good with that, but thanks for checking anyway.
"Also I am doing payroll. And when I overpaid you with the last check, There was still a credit of 7 hrs on there, I have your time sheet from this last time with the 7 hr shift. After this paycheck you are back on track for payroll.
sorry if that was confusing.
Thanks for all your hard work"

She had sent me one last email in response to the big one I sent her. She basically just apologized for miscommunication and said that the weekends have just been so crazy, and said she would send my last paycheck. Seriously, she better pay me extra in this check now that she realizes how many times she has screwed me over. But we all know that she won't. Because she doesn't care, and I swear she has no conscience.

So here's to the new and improved me, who totally called my boss out on everything! I won't let people walk all over me again. Cheers!

P.S. I know I won't be able to use her as a reference in any new jobs, but I can use Kathy. Because she loves me.

Friday Nights & Randoms

So after I uploaded all those pictures, I figured I'd blog a little bit more. I have quite a few updates actually, so this post might be semi long.

After living in Logan for a year now, (YAY! I'm a Utah Resident!) I've realized what a ghost town it is on occasions such as these; Spring Break, Christmas Break, etc. Pretty sure the only people left in Logan right now are my roommates and I. So last night we decided to go to a movie.. since nothing else would be going on. We went to Remember Me, only because Emily has this wild obsession with RP. Hahahaha, no I'm kidding. We all wanted to see it.

We were basically expecting a chick flick, and it wasn't.. really. It was kind of dark and depressing. It made me extremely grateful for the family that I have, and grateful that I wasn't really picked on or tormented in school too. I'm not sure if I would recommend it or not, it definitely wasn't up to my mom's standards, but I liked it, a lot. If you do go though, don't forget your tissue box. I cried like a baby.

Anyway, while in the movie theater, we sat in front of these stupid annoying teenagers. When we sat down, we took away their 'foot rest' and I hear them say in unison, "OMG, are you freaking kidding me?" .. Yes they said O-M-G too. This is when I realized that it was a huge mistake to sit in front of them. They were prime seats though, that never happens! So we stayed put. Well, during the whole credits they were literally yelling and screaming, and just being annoying, really. And the whole scene they made while watching the Eclipse Trailer was completely unnecessary. 5 minutes into the movie they were still talking at a normal voice level, it's not even like they were whispering! I turned around and all I could muster out was "...SHHHHHuuu......" I wanted to say, "Shut up or go to the mall or something!" But only part of shut up was able to escape my mouth. Dang I hate being so nice sometimes. I would have showed them who was boss. So, for the next 10 minutes of the movie I hear them saying, "You shh!" or "Kick their seats!" ha! Good one! So finally after 30 minutes they went down to the very bottom where nobody was sitting, but we could still hear them talking! So the whole theater was pissed, and you would hear "SHUT UP", or "SHHH", scattered throughout the whole theater. The stupid teens shut up for just a short amount of time before they decided it would be funny to run up and down the aisle a couple of times. Seriously, stupid girls? If you plan on being this annoying, you don't belong in public places. Being around them was pretty much the same amount of torture I would get from going to a Reba Macentire concert. Shoot me. Some of them eventually left, while the others went back in their bottom row seats.
Meanwhile, we went home. It was like 10:00, and we wanted to find people who were in Logan. We were looking on craigslist for "Men seeking Women" (just for fun though, we would never give out our info to creeps like this.) Then we thought LDSsingles would be more legit to find a nice guy to hang out with. So we make an account, and realize the only men on that site are 30-40 who have already been married. So that idea was thrown out the window. We settled for driving around and eating a baked potato from Wendys. We were driving and we saw this car on the side of the road and two guys trying to get something out of the trunk, we joked and said they were hiding a body in there, and getting rid of the evidence in the creek nearby. Well, we learned our lesson about joking around, because we saw the police, firemen, and ambulance racing down the street we were just on. We didn't think anything of it until we followed them, seeing as there is nothing else to do. They stopped where we saw that car, and turns out those guys really were trying to get half dead bodies out of the trunk, cause it was only a two door car and I guess it was really smashed up. We didn't notice the car was wrecked. We saw 3 bodies on stretchers and one in a body bag.. We basically witnessed a car crash and joked about it. I feel really bad! Anyway, tonight made me realize how lucky I am that I have a great family, and that I am not seriously injured, nor have been before.
Other Randoms: So, as you might have read before, my dance instructor is beautiful. I danced with him like 5 times last class period. The guys I was dancing with didn't know how to the moves and would call him over. Which is funny, cause I'm usually the one who plays like I don't know how to do it and I call him over so he can help me instead of the guy I'm dancing with.. hahaha, I'm a pretty good liar. So he comes over, usually he just shows the guy where to maneuver his hands and such, but this time he takes me and and shows all those guys how it's really done. Geez, I really just love dancing with him. I emailed him a while ago asking him if there was some sort of rule that he cant hang out with his students, and if there was that he should violate it and come over sometime for cinnamon rolls. Too bad I didn't have his number because email takes forever! He got my email a week later and responds with, No it definitely isn't against the rules to hang out with my students, and I love cinnamon rolls! I would love to come over, and I'd even bring Chocolate milk for all to share. So, cool. Not only do I get to dance with him sometimes, but I can even impress him with my mad baking skills.
Also, I didn't blog about this, but I decided where to live next year. I'm going to be living in Caitlin Meacham's place! I'm stoked, cause it's a way cute house, and I feel really good about it! Cait won't be living there, which is a bummer, but I'm taking over her contract. She is transferring to the U of U next semester and coming back for the Spring semester at USU, but needed someone to live in her room for just the fall semester so she would be able to live there when she came back. This worked out perfectly because when I go on a mish, I would only go to the fall semester of school, and I wouldn't have to sell my contract because Cait would be back. So, that worked great. And I'm really excited to room with Jess again. I lived with her and Cait when I first moved to Logan, and I just love them! Wish me luck!
Well, there's still lots more I would like to blog about, like the drama with my job. But if I blogged about that I would just be in a bad mood, so I won't. I'll just say that I hate my boss, and as many times as she's screwed me over, she owed me that last paycheck! She hasn't payed me for a month and a half to make up for the double paycheck situation. And if she gives away ONE more of my shifts to someone else, I'm going to flip! I'm the favorite employee too, I'm Evan's daughters favorite! They tell me all the time! So why do I get screwed over the most?!
On a lighter note, I can't wait to go home for a whole week! Also can't wait to go to Phoenix again for a month and a half! Holllla!

The Last Few Months in Picture Form

I know I've been slacking with the blog. Mostly the picture portion part of it.. So here are a bunch of pictures from the last few months. Enjoy!

My roommate.. or Ashley Tisdale??

I came home from a crappy day at work to find this note, a bag full of goodies, and balloons sent from my family for Valentines day! That's 10x better than a hot date!

Okay, you can't really tell what's going on here.. But Meg B and I thought it would be pretty epic if we were to get a song to play at the same time on both of our computers, and after about 20 + times we got it to play at the exact same time! That's probably my greatest accomplishment this year.

You know you're a poor college student when you still wear boots with holes in them! Also, when you decide to go home for Spring Break instead of roadtripping to Cali. Or no, that's what a responsible college student would do.. Go me!

I told Lerin to make a gay face and this is what he came up with. Kudos.

My version of a gay face.

Babysitting Leah's kids in Phoenix. I didn't feel like doing Avery's hair today.. clearly. haha

But when I do decide to dress her up, I do a dang good job!

My roommates and I getting ready for the Mardi Gras Dance, SO fun!

Pre-dance party in the hallway.

Coldstone date night!

Dance party in the backseat. Sorry if I'm such an embarrassment, Meg B

NSYNC is the ONLY way to go.

That's all folks.
